Cooking with Diz

Another quickie, but too precious to forget:

A few weeks ago Neil, Jeff and Bean were off to the movies. Charissa, and Diz were here, and Amy was not over here for some reason, I can't remember. Anyway, Diz was helping me bake something, (noticing the story is lacking details and that certain something, thanks to the "mentalpause" blues, sorry peeps) when he turned to me and asked "Should we get my making shirt". Obviously perplexed, though I said not a word, he knew my confusion, (proof they may be little but they know more than we give them credit for knowing) and began to explain...the shirt I put on last time that used to be Bean's painting shirt. I had to smile, in his mind when we are making something in the kitchen we wear the "making shirt", and old shirt of Jeff's used in place of an apron.

Matter of fact:

So this is a quick one, and I don't generally try to embarrass anyone but some things are to funny not to remember.

Yesterday Bean got out of the car and I asked him about his hair which was unusually disheveled. I then proceeded to straighten it with my fingers before going in to the library. He tousled it and simply stated "Nice hair is for rich kids." I had to smile, and hope you will too on reading this.

Brunch

Saturday I was sat with Bean when I got a text that baby "misses his Grandma". This evolved into Sunday brunch with the whole gang.

Saturday evening Jeff and I went to the store, grabbed pancake batter, eggs, and breakfast meat. We went home and boiled eggs, cooked the bacon ahead of time, put the sausage in the fridge until the following morning and set out the pancake fixings on the counter ready to go, and felt proud of ourselves for being so prepared...AND the power went out! Switch tracks! Jeff and I headed to the local coffee shop, as even my fancy new coffee maker doesn't work without electricity. Then we decided that we would serve bagels and another sort of meat, ham and turkey I think, and two kinds of cream cheese.

Rissy and Amy brought the fruit, no specific request, just fruit, so it was curious to see what they would come up with. Amy arrived with mandarin oranges, grapefruit, and peaches oh my. Charissa arrives with bananas, apples and oranges, oh my!

My favorite thing was visiting with the family and seeing how this brunch evolved and came together so nicely with little direction and an unexpected detour:-)
